The Trojans swept Rhode Island this past weekend riding on the arms of the their pitching staff. The Troy arms kept the Rams off balance and at one point held them scoreless for 17 consecutive innings.
Junior Brock Kelley hit a three-run homerun in the seventh inning of Friday's game propelling the Trojans to a 9-2 win. Kelley had five RBI in the game.
Senior Bryan Miller posted eight RBI in the series including a five RBI game on Saturday.
The Troy pitching staff combined to allow only 16 hits in the four game series. Troy used a total of 10 pitchers on the weekend who gave up only four runs. The staff also combined to strike out 30 batters while posting a 0.75 ERA.
Troy split with the Owls last season. Troy lost 1-0 at Kennesaw and won the rematch in Troy, 11-5
In the rematch in Troy, Ala., the Trojans defended their home field, winning that contest, 11-5. Miller had a three hit and three RBI day against the Owls.
The two teams will meet three times this season, and twice within five days. The Owls will host Troy on Tuesday, with the teams meeting again on Sunday in Dothan, Ala., at the Screentech Wiregrass Classic.
