TROY - The first rodeo of the Trojan Stampede double header is over and Troy was able to put on a show for their fans Friday night.
The weather wasn't pretty but once the short round was underway nothing could not stop the fans from piling in to support their Troy Trojans, and the Trojans performed in return.
"We had a better turn out tonight than we've had in the past, the team really tries not to make mistakes in front of the home crowd and I think we did a good job of that tonight," said Troy assistant coach Chris Graham.
The Trojan men's team finished in fourth, just missing third by a mere five points and the women's team finished in a solid second place, both teams holding their own at the home event.
"Our riders really stepped it up in the short go and pulled out some good wins," said Troy head coach Josh Simmons.
The individual riders were able to place in almost every event that Troy participated in with three first place finishes, Will Bradley winning calf roping (20.3), Tabitha Kiker winning the cowgirl's goat tying (17.6) and Whitney Hazouri tying for first in breakaway roping (6.3).
Mary Owens finished second in barrel racing (35.27), Jake Thomas finished third in cowboy's steer wrestling (8.9) and Clint Keller and Mark Gentry took third in team roping (17.5).
"With the results of the first rodeo I'm looking forward to tomorrow, I think we have a good chance to pull out a first place finish for both the men and women," said coach Simmons. The second Rodeo of the double header will be a one day event Saturday, the slack beginning at 8 a.m. and the performance beginning at 7 p.m.
