CASPER, Wyo. ? Troy University sophomore Ben Mayworth turned in the best time of the night on Wednesday in the tie down roping competition at the College National Finals Rodeo to move into second place overall in the week-long event.
Mayworth, a native of Sebring, Fla., is no stranger to winning big events after having won the same event at the Southeastern Livestock Exposition Rodeo at Garrett Coliseum in Montgomery back in March.
The only other Trojan to compete on Wednesday was sophomore Randa Dewees, who posted a third round 19.64 in the barrel racing competition to move up to 17th overall.
Mayworth's third round time of 8.4 seconds in the tie down roping gives him a combined score of 29.3 after three rounds. He trails Boyd Quinley of Tennessee-Martin by 1.2 seconds overall.
Third round competition will continue tonight with the fourth round slated to take place on Friday before Saturday's championship round.
