Simmons and his partner, Nick Kent of Southern Arkansas, entered the short run in fourth place after recording a three-round time of 27.2 seconds, but posted a time of 11.9 seconds in the finals to move up to their final third-place standing.
Kayne had a tremendous performance this week,” Troy head rodeo coach Cliff Toliver said. He has been a leader for our program all season, and he proved to be no different in the national spotlight. We are certainly proud of his efforts and all that he has given to the Troy rodeo program.”
In their first run of the CNFR, the duo posted a time of 9.1 seconds, which put them in 16th place overall. The team jumped to ninth in the standings by posting a second round time of 10.3 seconds. In the third round, they posted their best time, a 7.8 second run. The team finished with a four-round total time of 39.1 seconds, which was only 0.6 seconds behind the team of Destry Graham and Wendall Stanley, who finished second.
Simmons finishes the season with a pair of first-place and five top-five finishes. He earned individual titles at the Troy University-hosted Trojan Stampede in calf roping last October, and teamed with Kent at the Missouri Valley College rodeo to win the team roping title in March.
