Trojans Finish Second at Murray State

The Troy University men's rodeo team earned the school's first ever rodeo title as the Trojans won the Murray State Rodeo held Nov. 18-20.
The Trojans led the field of seven schools with 335.00 points. Second-place Tennessee-Martin finished with 310.00. On the women's side, Troy finished second, finishing just 18 points behind rodeo winner West Alabama.
With the win, the Trojans moved to second in the region standings. The Trojan women are also in second in the Ozark region.
Trojans won two of the three men's timed events, and finished second in the third. Erin Bullin was one of five Trojans to finish in the top 10 in the steer wrestling event, winning the event with a combined time of 9.1 seconds. Brad Robbins and Cory Moesching finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Wes Brunson finished second overall in the tie-down roping event, with a combined time of 18.1. His finals time of 7.7 seconds is the best in Troy history. Derrick Traylor and Dustin Merritt finished fourth and fifth in the event, respectively.
Four Trojans teams competed in the team roping event, with John Perrett and Cody Murphy winning with a combined time of 14.6 seconds. Daniel Barnard and his teammate, Donald Wedgworth from West Alabama, finished second in the event.
Joy Lynn Benedict led the women's side, finishing fifth in the overall standings. Benedict finished eighth in the barrel racing and sixth in the goat tying events.
Jackie Jacobs won the goat-tying event with a time of 18.0 seconds. Melissa Revill finished second.
"This was a big weekend for us," said Troy rodeo coach Cliff Toliver. "We did really well in the timed events. I'm really happy with how we did."
The Murray State Rodeo was the final rodeo for the Trojans this fall. They will resume competition in the spring.
