Jessica Lopez joins the Troy University coaching staff this fall as a graduate assistant after a four-year collegiate playing career.
Lopez joins the Trojan staff this season after finishing her career at Newberry College, a Division II power in South Carolina.
She played three seasons at Newberry College, where she was selected as a team captain under head coach Nicolee Thompson. She played primarily as a setter and right-side hitter. Lopez finished her career at Newberry in 2006, after receiving a medical hardship “redshirt” in 2005.
Before playing at Newberry, Lopez starred at Madison Area Technical College in 2002 through 2003. At Madison Area Tech, she helped lead the team to the conference championship during her freshman season of 2002. During that freshman season, Lopez was named First Team All-Conference, First Team All-Region and was selected to the All-State Tournament Team.
During her sophomore season, Lopez was named First Team All-Conference and was selected as a First Team All-Region member. During her junior college career, Lopez was used as an outside hitter and setter. She finished her career with 210 kills and 636 assists. She also added 50 digs, 20 blocks and 39 service aces.
Prior to her collegiate career, Lopez was prepped at Madison Memorial, in Madison, WI, from 1997 until 2001. While there, she played volleyball under coach Sally Erck for two seasons as a setter and right-side hitter. She was named Second Team All-Conference during her senior season. Lopez also lettered in soccer at Madison Memorial.
A native of of Moline, IL, Lopez is the daughter of Lisa Babler and Thom Lopez.
