Troy Opens Sun Belt Play at South Alabama

TROY, Ala. - Troy soccer begins Sun Belt Conference play on Thursday night when it travels to Mobile to take on in-state rival South Alabama.Â
Troy (1-5-2) enters the 10-match conference schedule following a 3-3 draw against Alcorn State on Sunday afternoon. The Trojans equalized on three separate occasions, capped off by Alaina Uncapher's 87th minute penalty kick. The goal marked Uncapher's third of the season – she is Troy's active career goal leader with eight.Â
Irene Torres picked up a brace in the draw, the first two goals of the first year's career. Torres is tied with Uncapher for the team lead in total shot attempts with 12. Â
South Alabama (2-4-1) returns to action Thursday following an 11-day break. The Jaguars last took the pitch on Sept. 6, earning a 3-1 win over Southeastern Louisiana. South Alabama will look to build on its success from last season, when it earned the No. 1 seed in the Sun Belt Championship before falling to No. 4 Texas State in the semifinals.Â
