The Trojans (25-26, 14-12 SBC) tallied 14 hits - including nine extra-base hits - and never trailed after knocking South Alabama (31-19, 15-11 SBC) starter Rylan Bozenhard out after one inning. Troy scored three runs in the opening frame on a solo homer by Josh Pyne and a two-run opposite field blast by Jimmy Janicki.
Pyne and Janicki each came one leg shy of the cycle, as Pyne added an RBI double and a triple while Janicki doubled and singled. Blake Cavill finished a four-hit day with a solo home run in the eighth inning, while Aaron Piasecki went 2-for-4 with a two-run shot in the fourth. In total, the top four of the Trojan lineup combined for 12 hits while the Troy offense as a whole struck out just once.Â
On the mound, Troy starter Tommy Egan pitched 4.2 innings with four hits, two earned runs, seven strikeouts and three walks. The only damage against the senior right-hander came on a two-run homer by Blake Guerin in the fourth inning before Egan struck out the side. The Jaguars loaded the bases against Egan in the fifth with the Trojans leading 4-2, but Zach Crotchfelt struck out Rett Johnson to strand all three runners.
Crotchfelt put up a zero in the sixth before South scored three runs against the lefty in the seventh. Dylan Alonso took over with one out in the frame and closed out the final 2.2 innings while keeping the Jaguars out of the hit column.Â

Head Coach Skylar Meade on the top four in the lineup…
"I just thought they all were flat and fast. Jimmy showing uber toughness, as we already know. Blake had a huge day - biggest day he's had this season, when it was really needed. JP [Josh Pyne] had great at-bats. It certainly started with the home run earlier when you feel like that was a seven or eight pitch at-bat if my memory serves me correct. Piasecki's big home run to right was awesome."
Third Baseman Josh Pyne on evening the series…
"It's always nice to bounce back. Obviously, yesterday didn't go how we wanted to. It's a tough team. It's tough to show up and bounce back and compete like that, but we got it done."
First Baseman Blake Cavill on the offense…
"It was incredible. I think every guy got on. And not just singles - extra-base hits. All of us [the top four] had extra-base hits. It really paid off."
Next UpÂ
