MONROE, La. - Troy launched five home runs while first baseman Blake Cavill blasted two grand slams as the Trojans defeated ULM 13-3 in seven innings in Saturday's rubber match.

Cavill finished with nine RBIs, tying the single-game Sun Belt Conference record while falling one short of the Troy record. The senior first baseman started the day with an RBI double in the first inning before launching his grand slams in the second and third innings. Both grand slams came with two outs and two strikes.

The Trojans (29-27, 17-13 SBC) outhit the Warhawks (27-28, 12-8 SBC) 12-6 in the ballgame. Jimmy Janicki, Drew Nelson and Jabe Boroff each crushed solo homers, while Aaron Piasecki added an RBI on a base-loaded walk before Cavill's first grand slam.

On the mound, Troy starter Hayden Smith went 1.1 innings with two hits, two earned runs, four walks and one strikeout before a dominant showing from the bullpen. Dylan Alonso earned the win, tossing 3.2 innings with two hits, one earned run, two walks and three strikeouts. Zach Crotchfelt threw one scoreless inning, while Noah Thigpen kept ULM out of the hit column in the seventh.

For ULM, starter Holden Hess allowed two earned runs, exiting after a leadoff single by Nelson in the second. Tyler Roark issued five runs in two-thirds of an inning, while the Trojans added five more against Justin Robinson in 1.1 innings. Troy scored 12 of its 13 runs in the first three innings, with Adam Tubbs allowing just a seventh-inning homer to Boroff in his four innings of work.

Notables

Troy finished the regular season 11-3 in series finales and 8-2 in rubber matches.
Troy homered for the seventh consecutive game. It's the first time the Trojans have done so since March 2-12, 2024.
Blake Cavill became the first player in Troy history to hit two grand slams in a game. His grand slams were the third and fourth grand slams of his career.
Cavill tallied nine RBIs, which tied the Sun Belt Conference record. It was the 13th nine-RBI game in SBC history, most recently done by former Troy first baseman Will Butcher against SIU-Edwardsville on Feb. 17, 2024.
Cavill's nine RBIs were one shy of the Troy record of 10 set by Stacy Gillispie against Stetson in 1999.
Cavill is the first Trojan with nine RBIs in a Sun Belt Conference game.
Jimmy Janicki hit his 17th homer of the season. He finished the regular season as the Sun Belt leader in both home runs (17) and RBIs (70). He is the eighth player in Troy history with 70-plus RBIs in a season.
Drew Nelson's homer was his fifth of the season.
Jabe Boroff's homer was his fourth of the season.
Dylan Alonso tossed 3.2 innings to earn the win. It was the longest relief appearance of his career.

I thought this game was on pace to set the record for the longest game in the history of the sport, so I'm glad that we did what we had to do. I thought Thiggy [Thigpen] was really good. He wasn't rewarded on some pivotal winning pitches there. Crotchfelt handled a little adversity. Alonso was really good for us piggybacking Hayden."
