ATHENS, Ga. - Troy split its season series with Georgia, falling to the No. 5 Bulldogs 11-1 in seven innings at Foley Field on Tuesday.
The Trojans (22-23) were outhit 11-6 by a Georgia (35-11) team that blasted four home runs to add to their nation-leading total of 124. Troy's only run came on a pinch-hit homer by Nico Azpilcueta in the top of the seventh with the Trojans trailing 11-0.Â
Lefty Brock Tapper gave Troy 2.1 strong innings, exiting in the third inning after making a diving catch on a popped-up bunt by Georgia right fielder Kenny Ishikawa. The Bulldogs scored two runs on Tapper in the second on an RBI groundout by Ryan Black and a single by Tre Phelps. Black's groundout was nearly an inning-ending double play to get Tapper out of the inning, but the Trojans were only able to get the out at first base.
Right-hander Dylan Alonso finished the third for the Trojans, but catcher Daniel Jackson hit his first of two home runs on a two-run shot in the fourth. Troy used a total of five bullpen arms while Kenny Ishikawa and Brennan Hudson hit a pair of solo shots in the fifth before Jackson's three-run homer in the sixth. UGA put the run-rule in effect with Hudson being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Kolby Branch driving in a run on a sac fly.
Georgia starter Jordan Stephens kept Troy off the board through four innings, striking out three without a walk. Troy loaded the bases against Mason Kosowick in the fifth, but Joe Nottingham, who finished the final 2.1 innings for the Bulldogs, got them out of the inning with a strikeout.

Head Coach Skylar Meade
"It got changed early there. That second inning unfortunately was just not our finest defensively. Three plays that either didn't end the inning or added extra bases that proved to be pivotal. It made us, inevitably, have to make some different decisions pitching-wise. Some guys had opportunities, it just didn't go as well as they could."
