Men's Tennis Claims Victory Over Southern Miss, Advances to SBC Semifinal

ROME, Ga. - Troy men's tennis defeats Southern Miss, 4-1, Friday afternoon at the Rome Tennis Complex to secure a spot in the Sun Belt Conference Championship semifinal.
Troy (23-4) clinched the doubles point, with senior Yeray Andres Pastor and freshman Ryusei Miyazato winning on Court 3, 6-3, as sophomore Thiago Drozdowski and freshman Stephan Tavares Noale won on Court 2, 6-2.
Andres Pastor and Miyazato continue to remain undefeated in doubles this season, with a 6-0 record after the match.
The Trojans then transitioned to a competitive singles play against the Golden Eagles. Troy stayed in the lead, as junior Louis Boilevin and sophomore Hiiro Sakamoto won each of their courts through straight sets.
As singles play continued, the Golden Eagles attempted to catch up to the Trojans. Senior Saheb Sodhi won on Court 3, 6-3 6-4, to put Southern Miss on the board. However, Tavares Noale won on Court 5, 7-5 6-0, and gave the Trojans the boost they needed to complete the game with a win.
Troy now sits with a sixteen-match winning streak.
That winning streak will now be tested, as the No. 2-seeded Trojans face off against No. 3 Georgia Southern in the semifinal of the Sun Belt Championship. This match is set for Saturday afternoon at the Rome Tennis Complex at 1 p.m. CT.
