Troy Continues Road Trip with Florida Gulf Coast

TROY, Ala. – The Troy softball team makes the trek down to Fort Myers, Fla., to take on Florida Gulf Coast in a three-game series this weekend. The Trojans (13-6) are fresh off a midweek win over Georgia Tech and look to carry their momentum against the Eagles (5-15).
Heading into the matchup, the Trojans' offense is still top 10 in the nation in batting average, on-base percentage and stolen bases. Troy has been creating chaos on the basepaths and stringing together big innings, including a six-run outburst in the third inning against the Yellow Jackets.

After falling behind 1-0 early, Troy's six-run third inning sealed a 6-2 win over Georgia Tech in Atlanta on Tuesday. Makaley Boswell hit her 11th double of the season as part of a two-hit game, and Megan Loftis and Kiley Huffman added RBI extra-base hits as well.
From the circle, Ella Cunningham, Mya Holt and Abby Lovell combined to stifle the Georgia Tech bats. Lovell earned her second save of the season after stranding two runners in the fifth inning and striking out the side in the seventh.
FGCU Preview
Florida Gulf Coast in its first season under head coach Lindsay Fico, who joined the Eagles after leading Mercer to a regional last year. While Florida Gulf Coast has struggled on paper, the Eagles have played the 55th-toughest schedule in the nation, according to the D1 Softball and 643 Charts. FGCU has a win over D1 Softball Mid-Major No. 2 Florida Atlantic under its belt as well.
Mackenzie Leiti fuels the Eagles lineup – she's swatted three home runs and has a 1.050 OPS this season. Additionally, Olivia Black has hit .364 and stolen seven bases in seven attempts.
Although the Eagles pitching staff has struggled so far this season, Victoria Ash leads the team with a 3.97 ERA. Grace Taylor has thrown four complete games, including going seven innings against Louisville and Southern Illinois.
