TROY, Ala. - Troy Baseball is back on the road for another SEC midweek matchup, as the Trojans are set to travel to Athens, Ga., to face No. 8 Georgia.
The Trojans enter the week fresh off their first series victory of the season, taking two of three from Campbell over the weekend. Troy opened the series with a run-rule win, but the Camels answered with a run-rule victory of their own in game two. The Trojans responded in the rubber match, blasting three home runs from Blake Cavill, Jabe Boroff and Josh Pyne to secure an 8-4 win.
Right-hander Dylan Alonso was lights-out for the Trojans out of the bullpen, earning the save in both victories. He entered game one with Troy leading 3–1 in the seventh and struck out three over 1.2 scoreless innings to secure the win. In game three, the junior took the mound with the tying run on deck in the seventh and rolled an inning-ending double play on his first pitch, following it up with two more scoreless frames while striking out four to seal the series-clinching victory.
The Bulldogs, ranked No. 8 by Baseball America, boast one of the top offenses in college baseball, ranking second nationally with 24 home runs, which included 13 in their three-game sweep of Samford over the weekend.
On the mound, Georgia will start redshirt junior righty Justin Byrd, who has yet to allow a hit in 1.2 innings across two relief appearances this season. Senior lefty Brock Tapper will make his first career start for the Trojans. The southpaw has made two relief appearances this year, including a 1-2-3 inning in a win over Mercer.
