TROY, Ala. – Coming off a fall season that featured a team title, the Troy women's golf team opens its spring campaign at the Babs Steffens Invitational hosted by Stetson at the DeBary Golf and Country Club on Monday and Tuesday.
The Trojans won the 16-team field at The Velvet Classic back in September, led by true freshman Constanza Quiroga's individual victory in the event, one of two top-25 finishes for the rookie.
"We are really excited to get started," head coach Randy Keck said. "The offseason has been good to us, and we are rounding into shape. Our spring practices have been very intense, with the main focus being on competing well when it is crunch time. We have started to play some quality golf coming out of the winter weather and look to get off to a hot start this week. We expect to be toward the top of the leaderboard at the end of the tournament."
Quiroga paced the Trojans in the fall, posting a 2.07 score vs. par and a team-best three rounds under par, while her card counted towards the team score in 14-of-15 rounds. Victoria Stutts held Troy's top bag in two of the four events she played in, as she closed the fall with a 3.42 score vs. par, two rounds in the red and a team-low 69 in the second round of the Lady Red Wolves Classic.
Mayna Saini and Katelynn Altese finished the fall tied with 4.33 score vs. par marks, with Altese the lone Trojan to have all her rounds count towards the team card. Laura Fangmeyer closes out the lineup for the Trojans and enters the spring with 113 career rounds played.
