Women's Golf Finishes Fourth at ULM Invitational

MONROE, La. – The Troy women's golf team is playing its best golf of the season when it matters most, as the Trojans finished fourth at the ULM Invitational, its best finish since week two of the fall, in their final tune-up before the Sun Belt Conference Championship.
Three Trojans shot in the red this week at the Bayou Desaird Country Club after Troy entered the event with six total under-par rounds all year. Manya Saini joined the party on Tuesday as she carded a 1-under 71 thanks to an eagle on the par-5 14th and a birdie on the par-5 16th; it was her first under-par round of the year.
Laura Fangmeyer, who finished 12th, paced the Trojans for the first time this season, as the senior shot 2-over for the tournament after carding five birdies in her round of 75 on Tuesday. Victoria Stutts added her second top-25 of the year after finishing in a tie for 17th place following a 75 in the final round that also featured an eagle on the 14th.
ULM shot 10-under as a team on Tuesday and won the team title by 15 shots over Samford, while Houston Christian was four shots back of the Bulldogs in third. Troy closed the week 26-over par, ahead of Sun Belt foes Southern Miss and Arkansas State, plus in-state rival UAB.
Saini climbed 15 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 20th place thanks to her 71 in the final round, while Mathilda Ringblom jumped 14 spots into a tie for 47th place after carding five birdies in a round of 73. Evelyn Tankersley shot 7-over on the day and tied for 64th, while Constanza Quiroga shot 72 in her lone round of the tournament after missing Monday's action due to illness.
Troy heads to Point Clear, Ala., and the Lakewood Club for the Sun Belt Championship, April 20-23.
