TROY, Ala. - Following a strong 5-2-0 start in the non-conference slate, Troy soccer opens Sun Belt Conference play on the road at Arkansas State.
The Trojans closed non-conference play with a dominant 3-1 win at Stetson, despite missing the Sun Belt's leading goal scorer, Jiselle Daniels. Junior Alaina Uncapher was the standout in the Trojan victory, netting the equalizer in the ninth minute after Stetson scored in the seventh. Uncapher followed up her goal by picking up the assist on Danielle Trovato's game-winning goal in the 32nd minute.
Additionally, freshman Melanie Oldner scored her first career goal early in the second half to provide some insurance for the Trojans. On the season, Troy's offense is scoring 2.14 goals per match.
Troy's defense has been just as strong to start the season, as junior goalkeeper Taylor Richards leads the Sun Belt with a 0.83 goals against average in her six starts. The Auburn transfer has recorded two shutouts and hasn't allowed more than one goal in a match.
Arkansas State enters the match with a 2-1-2 record, and the Red Wolves are led by Kennedy Horn who is tied with Troy's Daniels for the Sun Belt leader in goals (7). A-State is scoring 3.40 goals per match, though the Red Wolves have not scored more than two in any game outside of a 10-0 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
