Track & Field Heads to Harrisonburg for SBC Outdoor Championships

TROY, Ala. – Seven outdoor meets have led to the Troy track & field program entering the SBC Championships in Sentara Park from Thursday, May 8 to Saturday, May 10 on ESPN+.
The three-day meet starts on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. with the decathlon events, including the 100m, long jump, shot put, high jump and 400m, and stops at 9:10 p.m. with the men's 10,000m. Friday jumps into action at 10:30 a.m. with the conclusion of the decathlon events (110m hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin and 1,500m) and runs until 8:20 p.m. in the men's 3k steeplechase. Saturday marks the final day, opening in the men's triple jump at noon and stopping at 7:35 p.m. in the men's 4x400 relay.

The Troy track & field program is two weeks removed from its three-day weekend at the Penn Relays, where the team collected eight top-eight finishes at Franklin Field. The field side dominated the top finishers with Altwayne Bedward picking up a pair of top-five placements via fourth in the men's discus throw (50.58m) and fifth in the shot put (18.17m) – his mark in the shot put event marked the best by a Trojan in 2025.
Bedward wasn't the lone Trojan in the top eight in the shot put and discus events as Darius Sylvester threw a personal best of 16.24m to earn seventh in shot put while Tayjo Oppong-Adjei grabbed eighth in discus. On the women's side, Joy Edward also notched a personal best in the women's hammer throw.
Troy's track side also gathered a pair of top finishes as Michael Eady went the individual route in the 100m, qualifying for the men's championship with a 10.54. In the finals, he timed at 10.72 for eighth. Once again, a women's relay team paced the field as Kady Schwietz, Haley Wilson, Jasmine Jimenez and Aaliyah Murphy combined for a season's best 3:45.63 in the preliminaries to qualify for the finals – they ended at 3:46.78 in the finals for sixth.
