Trojans Prepare for Sun Belt Conference Tournament

TROY, Ala. – The Troy softball team is set to start play at the Sun Belt Conference Tournament with a matchup against James Madison on Wednesday. The No. 8 seeded Trojans (33-23, 12-12 SBC) take on the No. 9 seeded Dukes (25-25, 11-13 SBC) in the first round.
For the first time since 2021, Troy is hosting the conference tournament. The Trojans will take on the Dukes for the first time this season.

Facing the Dukes
Troy faces JMU for the first time since 2024 to start the Sun Belt Tournament. The Trojans are 3-3 against the Dukes all-time, with Troy taking a series win over them at home last season.
JMU enters the conference tournament ranked No. 118 in the NCAA RPI and is coming into the postseason scorching hot. After starting conference play 0-9, the Dukes have won five straight series and are 14-5 since being swept by Appalachian State.
Two-way player Payton List has starred for JMU, crushing 13 home runs en route to a 1.136 OPS. From the circle, List has started 17 games and holds a team-best 3.05 ERA.
Regular Season Recap
For the third straight season under head coach Eric Newell, the Trojans have won 30 games. Following a non-conference slate where Troy bested Power Four Wisconsin, the Trojans went 12-12 in Sun Belt Conference play.
In conference action, Troy earned a few huge series wins. To open Sun Belt action, the Trojans earned a series win over Coastal Carolina, who finished the regular season ranked No. 42 in the NCAA RPI. Troy also took its first-ever series win over Louisiana, and won a road series at Texas State, which won the Sun Belt regular-season title.
As a team, Troy was tied for first place in the Sun Belt Conference with 332 runs. The total is Troy's most in a season since 1999. Troy's offense was fueled by four qualified hitters with OPS totals over 1.000 – Taylor McKinney, Cassidy Boltz, Makaley Boswell and Annie Orman all reached the mark.
McKinney ended the regular season on a 39-game on-base streak, and tied the Troy single-season record for runs with 54. She has hit 15 home runs this season, the most by a Trojan since 2017 and fifth most in a single season.
Alyssa Faircloth finished the regular season with a 2.78 ERA and 1.30 WHIP. The southpaw struck out 146 batters in 148.2 innings pitched and led the Sun Belt with just 5.04 hits allowed per seven innings.
