4/3/2025 2:40:00 PM | Softball
TROY, Ala. – The Troy softball team looks to build off a doubleheader sweep of West Georgia as Louisiana rolls into town. The Trojans (23-16, 3-6 SBC) will try to get back on track in conference play against the Ragin' Cajuns (18-17, 4-5 SBC).
Taylor McKinney and the Trojans have been crushing plenty of homers as of late – Troy has homered in five straight games and have 11 in the last nine games. McKinney hit three three-run home runs in two games against the Wolves.
Meanwhile, Louisiana has seen its 89-series Sun Belt Conference win streak snapped this season. The streak, which dated back to 2013, was ended by Marshall earlier in the month.

All Bark, No Bite
The Trojans strolled into West Georgia on Wednesday and came away with two wins to snap a four-game skid. Troy hit four home runs in the 9-2 and 14-2 victories, run-ruling the Wolves in game two.
McKinney had a spectacular day, going 3-for-6 with 10 RBIs, three walks and four runs. Her three homers vaulted her into a tie for fifth place in Troy career home runs. Additionally, McKinney's six RBIs in game two were the most by a Trojan since Feb. 17, 2019.
In both games, the Trojans got off to quick starts. Game one saw Troy score six runs in the first two innings as Alyssa Faircloth and Savannah Money combined for ten strikeouts in the circle.
Annie Orman wasted no time getting Troy on the board in the second game, blasting a three-run homer to center field in the first inning. Mya Holt spun three strong innings from the circle and pushed across three RBIs from the dish – two of those came on an opposite-field triple.
Scouting out the Ragin' Cajuns
While Louisiana may not be as formidable it has been in past years, the Ragin' Cajuns played a tough non-conference schedule and saw some success. Louisiana has six wins over Power Four opponents, including victories over No. 21 Alabama, Ole Miss and Iowa.
Kayla Falterman and Emily Smith lead Louisiana's offense, with both carrying OPS marks above 1.000 into the weekend. Falterman's .432 batting average and .543 on-base percentage are both second in the Sun Belt.
On the pitching side of things, the Ragin' Cajuns don't have a clear-cut ace. Four different pitchers have garnered eight or more starts for the team, and each has thrown over 50 innings. Mallory Wheeler's 1.60 WHIP and 68.0 innings pitched lead the team.
