Women’s Tennis Opens Sun Belt Tournament Against Coastal Carolina

TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's tennis team has its sights set on the postseason, as it opens play in the First Round of the Sun Belt Tournament on Thursday afternoon against No. 10 Coastal Carolina at the Rome Tennis Complex. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
Troy (11-9, 6-5 SBC) – the seventh seeded team – enters the tournament with a 4-2 record over its final six matches and are looking to advance to the quarterfinal round on Friday. The Trojans have been led by Valeriia Avdeeva and Maria Guirguis, who were both named to the Singles Second Team All-Conference on Wednesday afternoon.
Avdeeva led the team with a 15-2 record in dual singles this season, while Guirguis was right behind with a 12-6 record. Both players won all of their conference matches in straight sets and have also been dynamic as a doubles pairing.
As a team, Troy has posted an overall singles record of 53-41 this spring, including 28-22 in Sun Belt play. Leena Metwally went 9-6 in singles and has won five of her last eight completed matches.
In doubles, the Trojans are 22-22 this spring. Avdeeva and Guirguis are leading the way with a 10-5 record in the No. 1 spot. They have won their last two doubles matches. Troy is 7-1 this season when winning the doubles point to open the match.
