First Scrimmage a Learning Lesson for Troy Football

TROY, Ala. – Troy head coach Gerad Parker led his squad through their first scrimmage of the spring this past Saturday and shared some candid thoughts on Tuesday after reviewing the film.
"It's such a heavy reminder for us as coaches and our football team that when you come into this stadium and put a different crowd in here, you can tell it was the first time we put the ball down and really played," Parker said. "This is the only time all year that we get to mock this, so we're going to practice today, practice Thursday and see what the response will be and the level of play; lowering missed assignments and execution level when we come back in the stadium on Saturday."
Parker altered his practice plan for Tuesday to challenge both his coaches and his players heading into the second-to-last week of spring practice.
"When you play as long as a scrimmage as we did, which I thought was a testament to our players and our coaches that we were able to stay out here as long as we did, there's a little bit of a left-over effect," Parker said. "We flushed it early and did some team segments early in the practice to get this thing going, and they responded, and we got after it early."
This upcoming Saturday marks the final real scrimmage of the spring, as T-Day on April 12 will have a different feel.
"We have the best fan base in the Group of Five and a storied tradition," Parker said. "This day, T-Day, for us, is a celebration of our players, their families and our fans. Period. We want to serve our community. We have a kid's camp at the beginning; we have a huge pregame meal to honor all of our players and celebrate the end of spring. We're going to have fun, smile, show off our team a little bit."
