TROY, Ala. – It was all Troy on Saturday morning, as the men's tennis team defeated Coastal Alabama Community College 7-0 at the Lunsford Tennis Complex to win its ninth game in a row.
Troy (14-4) has been on fire for the last month and Saturday was no different, as the Trojans didn't drop a single set against the No. 15-ranked JUCO program.
Troy handled its business quickly in the doubles portion of the match. Hiiro Sakamoot and Luciano Alcocer kicked things off with a 6-0 win in the No. 3 spot, improving their doubles record to 13-5. Henrique de Brito and Yeray Andres Pastor clinched the 1-0 lead for Troy with a 6-0 win in the second spot. The duo remains undefeated at 8-0 this spring.
The final doubles match was played out with Noah Martens and Nicolas Simkin securing a 6-2 win.
Singles was smooth sailing for Troy, as freshman Thiago Drozdowski kicked things off with a 6-1, 6-0 win in the No. 3 spot for his second dual win of the year. Yeray Andres Pastor improved his spring record to 12-1 with a 6-3, 6-0 win in the top spot. Martens clinched the match victory for Troy with a 6-2, 6-1 win in the No. 2 spot.
The remaining three singles matches were played out. In the No. 5 spot, de Brito won 6-1, 6-1 to move to 8-5 on the spring. Sakamoto extended his winning streak to 13 matches with a 6-0, 6-3 win on court four. Troy closed out the match with a 6-3, 6-2 win from Vicente Arbelaez in the No. 6 spot.
