Men’s Tennis Falls in Conference Opener to Georgia Southern

STATESBORO, Ga. – Troy's nine-match winning streak came to a close on Friday afternoon as it fell 4-2 to Georgia Southern at the Wallis Tennis Center.
Troy (14-5, 0-1 SBC) got off to a strong start in doubles play but couldn't keep the momentum riding in singles action, as Georgia Southern (9-5, 1-0 SBC) outscored Troy 4-1 during the second portion of the match.
Yeray Andres Pastor and Henrique de Brito remain perfect as a doubles duo as they moved to 9-0 on the spring following a 6-2 in the No. 2 doubles spot. The Eagles tied things up with a 7-5 win in the top spot. Hiiro Sakamoto and Luciano Alcocer picked up their 14th win as a pairing this spring with a 7-5 at No. 3 to clinch the early 1-0 lead for the Trojans.
In singles, Georgia Southern responded with a pair of two-set victories in the No. 1 and 2 spots to take a 2-1 lead. Troy evened things back at 2-2 after a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) win from de Brito in the No. 5 singles spot. He's now won his last three matches and is 9-5 on the spring.
That was the last time Troy got on the board, though, as Georgia Southern won 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 in the No. 6 spot to get within one point of the match victory, which was sealed by a 6-3, 7-6 (7-0) win in the top spot.
The final match went unfinished in the No. 3 spot, with the two players tied in the third set.
