AUBURN, Ala. – Despite putting the first runs on the board via a Kayden Dunn two-run shot in the second, the Troy softball program dropped its nonconference game, 12-2, to No. 17 Auburn on Wednesday night in the Jane B. Moore Field.
Alyssa Faircloth led the Trojans (12-9) on the mound as she delivered nine strikeouts, including eight through the first 11 batters faced. Three Trojans tallied a hit, led by Taylor McKinney with a pair of singles. Dunn and Reese Green followed her to put Troy's total at four.
Auburn (20-1) continued its winning ways, earning a ninth straight victory and fourth of 2025 over the Sun Belt Conference. After coming in the fourth for relief, SJ Geurin came in for the victory (13-0), allowing one hit in her one inning of play with a strikeout. Overall, the Tigers tallied seven hits, with four being home runs. Kylie Brockman sat atop the stat sheet with a 2-for-3 showing with five RBIs.
Flipped at the Fourth
Faircloth set the tone early from the circle, pinning down the Auburn offense with three strikeouts to set up the Troy offense in the top of the second inning.
McKinney brought the first hit of the ballgame on her second pitch when she sent a single through the left side. After a four-pitch battle, Dunn found her pitch and put it over the left-center wall for a 2-0 lead.
The sophomore pitcher continued her sling of punch outs at the bottom of the second with three up and three down before adding two more with a line out to bring her total to eight in the third.
The Trojans nearly expanded their advantage in the top of the fourth when Caiden Oliva reached on a fielding error, and McKinney singled to the pitcher to put runners on first and second. Auburn responded with two outs on the Trojans, but Green gave Troy an opportunity with a single through the left side. En route to putting Troy's third tally on the board, pinch-runner Megan Loftis got caught at home to keep Troy's advantage at two.
Auburn's defensive play flipped the script into the bottom of the fourth when Faircloth gave up the walk, and a Troy error put two runners on. AnnaLea Adams broke out the Tigers' first two runs off a two-RBI double to left center to tie the game at two. After an HBP put two runners back on the bases, Brockman hit the eventual game-winning three-run homer, 5-2.
The Tigers continued their onslaught, ending the fourth inning with 12 runs off seven hits, including four homers to run-rule the Trojans 12-2.
