Men’s Tennis Defeats Jacksonville State, 4-1

TROY, Ala. – The Troy men's tennis team extended its winning streak to eight matches after defeating Jacksonville State 4-1 at the Lunsford Tennis Complex on Tuesday afternoon.
Troy (13-4) has been on fire the last month, with its last loss coming on Feb. 1. The Trojans started slow on Tuesday but caught fire during singles play to keep its winning streak intact.
Jacksonville State (4-5) came away with the early 1-0 lead after picking up a pair of 6-3 wins in the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. The third doubles match went unfinished with the Gamecocks leading 5-4.
In singles, Nicolas Simkin opened with a 6-4, 6-4 win in the No. 1 spot to snap a two-match losing streak. The Trojans took their first lead of the afternoon with a 7-5, 6-4 win on court 3 by Noah Martens. He moves to 7-7 on the season and has won three consecutive matches.
The Trojans got within one point of the match victory with a 6-4, 7-5 win by Hiiro Sakamoto in the No. 4 spot. Sakamoto is leading the team with a 14-1 singles record and has the longest winning streak on the team at 12 matches.
Troy clinched the team win thanks to a 7-6, 6-2 win in the No. 5 spot by Henrique de Brito. The freshman moves to 7-5 on the season in dual singles matches.
The remaining two matches went unfinished, with both in the third set.

Troy opens its conference schedule next Friday, March 14, as it travels to Statesboro, Ga., to take on the Eagles of Georgia Southern. First serve is set for 12 p.m.
