TROY, Ala. - No. 17 Troy had its back against the wall in the bottom of the eighth inning, but a bases clearing triple from junior catcher Brooks Bryan rocketed the Trojans to a 4-3 win over Marshall to clinch the series at Riddle-Pace Field.
The Trojans had recorded just one hit, scoring one unearned run, against Marshall starter Griffin Miller through the first seven innings of the ballgame. Trailing 3-1, Jimmy Janicki began the rally with a leadoff hit by pitch before the Thundering Herd turned to submarine reliever Nicholas Weyrich with one out.
A Sean Darnell walk put the pressure on Weyrich, and Gavin Schrader followed by fouling off a pair of 3-2 pitches to draw a walk of his own. With the bases loaded, the Sun Belt RBI leader Bryan battled into a 3-2 count before lasering a 111 MPH line drive into centerfield. Marshall centerfielder Cam Harthan missed his attempt at a diving catch, and the ball rolled to the wall for a triple, scoring all three runs.
In the top of the ninth, Jay Dill picked up his fourth save of the season, stranding two base runners with a one-out strikeout and a groundout to end the ballgame.
The pitching was dominant from start to finish for the Trojans, as Noah Edders went 7.1 strong innings with five hits, three earned runs, seven strikeouts and one walk. It was the second consecutive week with a quality start for the Bradley transfer, as he pitched 6.0 innings with three earned runs and nine strikeouts in last Saturday's 9-8 win over No. 16 Coastal Carolina.
Freshman Noah Thigpen picked up his first career win in the ballgame. Thigpen recorded the final two outs of the eighth inning, retiring both batters he faced.
Game 3 between No. 17 Troy (21-7, 6-2 Sun Belt) and Marshall (12-15, 2-6 Sun Belt) is slated for 12 p.m. at Riddle-Pace Field on Sunday.

Quotables
Head Coach Skylar Meade on the comeback win…
"Fortunately, we took our walks there late, and then we had the one big swing from Brooks. Some great baserunning on the back side of it. Then we handled the rock in the last inning. Jay Dill made a couple of really quality pitches when it was winning time."
Meade on Noah Edders going 7.1 innings…
"Really good job from him, and we needed it. I think when you have a starter that goes that deep, it provides your team a little bit of comfort. Our guy's still going out there. We're down 2-1, down 3-1, but we're still in attack. Everybody feels okay."
Noah Edders on his performance…
"I was kind of a two-pitch guy the whole day. Except for that one changeup I threw, but we won't talk about that. I got the slider going early. Got them guessing, and we just started mixing from there."
Brooks Bryan on hitting his triple against a submarine pitcher …
"It was weird at first. You've just got to see it up. I've been swinging at some pitches up a little bit that I shouldn't swing at, but on a guy like that, you've got to see it up. You've got to get your pitch. With a guy like that who had been throwing a lot of balls, you've got to make sure that it's in your zone. Just attack the zone, attack him, and see what happens."
