No. 17 Troy Drops Midweek Matchup with Wofford

TROY, Ala. - No. 17 Troy fell 14-3 in eight innings to Wofford at Riddle-Pace Field on Tuesday.
The Trojans were outhit 13-6 by the Terriers and were held scoreless over the final five innings of the run-rule loss. Wofford led 4-3 after three innings but outscored Troy 10-0 to finish the game.
Freshman Noah Thigpen made his first career start for the Trojans, pitching 2.1 innings with three hits, four runs, two earned runs, one walk and three strikeouts. The righty from Lake Park, Ga., pitched a 1-2-3 first inning and nearly did the same in the second. A two-out error extended the frame, and Wofford scored the game's first runs on a two-run home run by left fielder Andrew Mannelly.
Troy grabbed one back in the bottom of the second on a Jimmy Janicki RBI double, while Wofford responded with two runs in the top third. Blake Cavill cut the lead to 4-3 on a two-run double in the bottom of the frame, but Mannelly's second homer of the game in the fourth sparked Wofford's 10-0 scoring finish to the game, scoring three in the fourth, one in the sixth, three in the seventh and three in the eighth.
In the fifth inning, Troy head coach Skylar Meade was ejected after Steven Meier was called out at first base on a bunt attempt, as the call was not overturned upon replay review.
The Trojans got all of their damage against Wofford starter Sheldon Egger. The lefty went 2.2 innings with five hits, three earned runs and two strikeouts. Righty John Gray pitched 2.1 hitless innings in relief, earning the win, while righty Alec Bouchard earned the save, going 3.0 innings with one hit, one walk and four strikeouts.
Troy moves to 18-7 on the season and is back in action on Wednesday at Florida A&M.

Next Up
Troy is back in action on Wednesday with a trip to Tallahasse, Fla., to play Florida A&M at 3 p.m. CT before returning to Riddle-Pace Field for a three-game Sun Belt series against Marshall Friday-Sunday.
