Men’s Tennis Comes Up Short Against South Alabama

MOBILE, Ala. – The Troy men's tennis team couldn't quit overcome a slow start, as it fell to South Alabama, 4-2, at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts on Saturday morning.
Troy (14-7, 0-3 SBC) lost both double matches to fall behind 1-0 early, and it couldn't dig itself out of the hole despite battling tough in singles. South Alabama (5-10) was down a doubles team and had to go 2-0 to clinch the point.
In singles, Hiiro Sakamoto quickly tied things for Troy with a 6-1, 6-4 win in the No. 4 spot. Henrique de Brito followed with a 6-3, 6-4 win to give Troy the 2-1 advantage. The Jaguars tied things up with a 7-6 (6) win at No. 2 and re-took the lead with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 win on court 3.
The Trojans, needing to win both remaining matches, came up short in the No. 6 spot, as South Alabama clinched the match victory with a 0-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory. The final match, on court 1, went finished with Troy leading in the third set.
Up Next
The Trojans return to Troy for a pair of matches against James Madison on Saturday and Old Dominion on Sunday. Both matches start at 10 a.m. at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
