TROY, Ala. – Troy senior Jake Springer has been named the Sun Belt Men's Golfer of the Week after picking up the individual victory at The All-American early this week, his second tournament victory this season and second SBC honor of the year.
Springer shot in the red in all three of his rounds and finished 7-under for the week to rally past Houston's Chi Chun Chun, who shot 3-over on Tuesday after entering the final round at 9-under. Springer becomes the first Trojan since Michael McGrady in 2007 to win multiple events in a season; Springer won the Everett Buick GMC Classic in the fall.
"Jake Springer is one of those special players who leads on and off the golf course," head coach Clay Bounds said after the victory. "I'm so proud of him for getting his second career victory this week. He made a huge birdie putt on 16 that propelled him into the lead. It was a great moment. He stuck to his game all week, and it paid off."
Springer has been Troy's number one bag in four of eight tournaments and has played 11 of his 24 total rounds this season in the red. This marks the second time in the last three weeks a Troy player has won the award after Brantley Scott won two weeks ago.
Troy will have a few weeks off before traveling to Estero, Fla., for the Old Corkscrew Intercollegiate on April 7-8.
