TROY, Ala. – One of the biggest risers nationally this spring, the Troy men's golf team looks to continue its torrid start to the championship season with a trip to the Golf Club of Houston for the All-American Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday.
Troy entered the spring ranked No. 81 nationally and fell to No. 87 following its first event. However, after a commanding victory at the Daytona Beach Intercollegiate and a second place finish in a strong field this past week at the Seminole Intercollegiate, the Trojans have catapulted into the No. 58 spot nationally this week.
Senior Brantley Scott finds himself ranked 28th nationally this week after finishing second at the Seminole, shooting 10-under par and finishing behind the current No. 1 ranked player in the World Amateur Golf Rankings.
This week's test will be stiff as well, as the field includes No. 16 UNLV, No. 53 TCU, No. 60 Houston, No. 69 Sam Houston State and No. 80 Rice.
The Trojans enter the week with three golfers at 0.19 vs. par or better, including Scott's team-leading -0.11 mark, while Troy as a team is shooting 0.81 vs. par on the year. All five Trojans in the lineup have shot five or more rounds under par this season, paced by Nick Fowlkes (9) and Jake Springer (8).
In addition to the team tournament, an individual will be held concurrently on the Member Course at the Golf Club of Houston, where Troy's Jason Quinlan and Laurenz Kunbin will compete for Troy.
