Men’s Tennis Takes Down Alabama State on Saturday

Montgomery, Ala. – The Troy men's tennis team extended its wining streak to seven matches on Saturday afternoon, as it defeated Alabama State 5-2 to cap off a 2-0 week.
Troy (12-4) has won eight of its last nine matches and are riding a hot streak as it heads into the final week of non-conference play.
Luciano Alcocer and Hiiro Sakamoto got things started for Troy in the No. 3 doubles spot, recording a 6-3 win. The duo is now 12-4 this season. Troy clinched the first point of the match on the first doubles court as Nicolas Simkin and Noah Martens recorded a 6-2 win. The final doubles match went unfinished.
In singles, Alcocer quickly put Troy up 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-3 win in the No. 6 spot. Alcocer is now 11-1 this spring and has won his last 10 matches. Troy pushed the lead to 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-2 win by Sakamoto on court 4. The newcomer is 13-1 this season and has 11 matches in a row.
Alabama State got its first point of the match in the No. 5 spot.
Martens clinched the team victory for Troy with a 6-4, 7-5 win in the No. 3 spot. He moves to 6-7 in dual play and has won back-to-back matches.
The Hornets got their second and final point of the match with a win in the top singles spot, while Yeray Andres Pastor won the final point of the match with a 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-4) victory on court 2.
