Men’s Tennis Travels to Alcorn State for a Pair of Matches

TROY, Ala. – Following five straight matches at home, the Troy men's tennis team is back on the road as it travels to Vicksburg, Miss., for a pair of matches on Saturday against Alcorn State. First serves are set for 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Troy (5-4) went 4-1 over its homestand and is coming off a 4-1 loss to North Alabama last Saturday. Prior to Saturday, the Trojans outscored their opponents 22-2 in the previous four matches including a pair of 7-0 wins and a 4-0 win.
In singles play this spring, Troy has put together a combined record of 28-18. Leading the charge has been Hiiro Sakamoto and Yeray Andres Pastor, who both have a team-best 6-1 singles record. Both players are also on four-match winning streaks. Luciano Alcocer (4-1) and Vicente Arbelaez (3-1) have each won three singles matches in a row.
Troy still hasn't solidified who will play in the top spot, as three players have recorded playing time on court 1 in singles this season.
In doubles, Troy has a 14-10 record in duals this year. The duo of Alcocer and Sakamoto have a team-best six wins, while Henrique de Brito and Pastor have the best record at 4-0. The Trojans have won the doubles point in each of the last five matches and are 4-1 this season when taking the 1-0 lead.
