TROY, Ala. – Winners of its last five matches, the Troy men's tennis team looks to keep it going as it travels around the state of Alabama this weekend for a pair of matches. Troy travels to Huntsville to Alabama A&M at 1 p.m. on Friday, before heading to Alabama State on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Troy (10-4) is in the midst of another impressive spring season, and it looks to extend its winning streak to eight matches heading into its final non-conference match next week. Last time out, the Trojans defeated South Carolina State 5-2 in a neutral match in Orlando, Fla.
Over the course of its winning streak, the Trojans have won the doubles point in four of those five matches. It's been an area of strength all season, as Troy has compiled a 23-14 doubles record since the start of dual play. Luciano Alcocer and Hiiro Sakamoto lead the team with 10 doubles wins this spring, while Henrique de Brito and Yeray Andres Pastor are perfect at 6-0.
Troy is 8-1 this year when taking a 1-0 advantage going into singles play.
In singles, the Trojans have a 47-23 singles record. Like in doubles, Sakamoto is leading Troy in the singles department as well, posting an 11-1 record through 12 completed matches. He is on a nine-match winning streak going into this weekend.
Alcocer and Andres Pastor have each put together a strong 9-1 record of their own. Of the eight Trojans who have appeared in singles matches, five of them have a winning record.
Alabama A&M (0-6) hasn't hit its groove yet this spring. It's coming off a 5-2 loss to Austin Peay on Saturday. The Bulldogs are 1-23 in single matches in dual play.
Alabama State (5-7) defeated Columbus State 4-3 at home on Saturday. Lun Obrul has a team-best 6-2 singles record. The Hornets are a combined 22-36 in singles and 15-16 in doubles.
