Men’s Tennis Defeats South Carolina State

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Troy men's tennis team extended its winning streak to five matches on Saturday morning, as it defeated South Carolina State 5-2 in a neutral match at the UTSA National Campus.
Troy (10-4) has been on a roll this season after getting off to a slower start. The Trojans started fast on Saturday winning the doubles point before handling its business in singles.
Nicolas Simkin and Noah Martens started doubles with a 6-3 win in the No. 1 spot, before Luciano Alcocer and Hiiro Sakamoto clinched the 1-0 lead with a 6-1 win at No. 3. The remaining match went unfinished with South Carolina State leading 4-3.
Troy has now won the doubles point in nine of its last 10 matches, including the last three matches. The duo of Luciano and Sakamoto continue to lead the team with 10 wins in doubles this spring.
In singles, Troy continued to play strong as it won three straight matches to clinch the team victory. Alcocer kicked things off with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 6. Sakamoto picked up his 11th win of the year with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at the No. 5 spot.
Simkin clinched the match for Troy with a 6-2, 6-4 win at the No. 1 spot.
The remaining matches were played out, with South Carolina State picking up wins at No. 3 and No. 4 to get a pair of points on the board.
Troy's final point of the match came courtesy of Yeray Andres Pastor, who won 7-6, 6-3 at No. 2. The Trojans have won 67.1 percent of its matches (47-23) in singles since the dual season got underway.

Troy is back in action next Friday, Feb. 28, in Huntsville, Ala., as it takes on Alabama A&M. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
