TROY, Ala. – Winners of its last four matches, the Troy men's tennis team is back in action on Saturday morning, as it battles South Carolina State in a neutral site match at the UTSA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. First serve is set for 9 a.m.
Troy (9-4) has been on a tear lately and is coming off a 6-1 win over Spring Hill College on Tuesday morning at the Lunsford Tennis Complex. The Trojans, who got off to a slow start, have fully hit their rhythm in both singles and doubles play.
The Trojans have won the doubles point in eight of the last nine matches, including in the last two. The duo of Henrique de Brito and Yeray Andres Pastor are undefeated this season, going 6-0 so far in doubles. Luciano Alcocer and Hiiro Sakamoto are leading the team with nine wins in the early part of the match.
As a squad, Troy has gone 21-14 in doubles during the dual season and are 31-19 when combined with its fall record.
In singles, Sakamoto is still leading the charge with a team-high 10 wins this spring and 15 overall since the start of the fall. Luciano Alcocer has also been strong with an 8-1 dual record. He has also won his last seven matches. Also on a long winning streak is Pastor, who has won his last six contests.
The Trojans have put together a 43-21 record in singles play this year and are 68-35 overall since the start of the fall campaign.
South Carolina State is 3-2 this season with wins over Georgia State, Chattanooga and Benedict College.
