TROY, Ala. – The Troy men's tennis team is back in action on Tuesday morning, as it welcomes Spring Hill to the Lunsford Tennis Complex. First serve is set for 10:30 a.m.
Troy (8-4) has been on a tear lately, winning three matches in a row and seven of its last eight. Over that period, the Trojans have won 35 of the possible 44 points up for grabs and has recorded four shutouts.
The Trojans have gotten tremendous singles play to open the season, as the team has a combined 38-20 dual record. Leading the charge has been Hiiro Sakamoto, who is 9-1 on the season and has won seven straight matches. Yeray Andres Pastor and Luciano Alcocer have each put together 7-1 records. Pastor is 2-0 when playing in the top singles spot and 5-1 at No. 2.
Doubles play has also been an area of strength for Troy, who has taken the crucial 1-0 lead in seven matches this season. In those duals, Troy is 6-1. Alcocer and Sakamoto have been paired together for each match this spring and are 8-4. The only other Troy duo that has played in more than three matches this season is Henrique de Brito and Nicolas Simkin, who are 5-0.
When playing on its home courts this season, Troy is 5-1 with its only loss coming to North Alabama. Last time out, Troy defeated UAB 4-2 on the road.
Spring Hill is 1-2 to open the season, and defeated Mississippi Gulf Coast 5-2 last Thursday. Tuesday is the first meeting between the two programs.
