HOOVER, Ala. – The Troy men's tennis team kept its strong play rolling on Friday afternoon, as it took down UAB 4-2 at the Hoover Met Tennis Center.

Troy (8-4) has now won four consecutive duals and are winners in seven of its last eight matches. UAB (4-5) held a brief lead during singles play, but couldn't keep the Trojans down for long.

The Blazers kicked things off with a 6-2 win in the top doubles spot to put early pressure on the Trojans who responded with a key 6-3 win in the No. 2 spot from Yeray Andres Pastor and Henrique de Brito to force the doubles point to a third match. Luciano Alcocer and Hiiro Sakamoto came up clutch with a 7-5 win to give Troy an early 1-0 lead. Alcocer and Sakamoto are now 8-4 in doubles this season, while Pastor and de Brito are 5-0.

UAB didn't trail for long as it quickly won the first two singles matches in the No. 3 and 1 spot to take a 2-1 lead. The Trojans, however, had a response as Alcocer picked up a 7-5, 6-3 win at the No. 6 spot to level the score at 2-2. Alcocer is now 7-1 in 2025.

Sakamoto quickly followed that up with a 6-2, 6-4 win on court 5 to Troy within one point of the match victory. He moved to 9-1 this spring with that win and continues to lead Troy in singles victories. He has won his last seven matches.

Pastor sealed the deal for Troy with a 6-3, 6-4 win in the No. 2 spot to push Troy to the four needed points. Like Alcocer, Pastor is now 7-1 this season.

The final match of the day went unfinished on court four with UAB leading in the third set.
