Troy Readies for Clash Against San Diego State

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Troy men's basketball heads to Viejas Arena on Tuesday night for a 9 p.m. CT matchup against San Diego State. The game will air on the Mountain West Network, with radio coverage on the Troy Sports Media Network.
Troy (3–2) has dropped its last two contests. On Sunday night, the Trojans fell to CSUN, 94–85, after allowing 51 first-half points and a minus 17 margin on the glass. Cobi Campbell impressed for Troy, scoring 17 points with four assists. Thomas Dowd continued his hot start to the season, finishing with 16 points and eight rebounds.
Troy and San Diego State (2-0) have played on two previous occasions, with the series tied at one.

Troy continues its longest road stretch of the season Tuesday at San Diego State.The Trojans are preparing for game three of a four-game stretch in the state of California. Following the week-long stay in the Golden State, the Trojans head straight to Ft. Myers, Fla., for the Coconut Hoops multi-team event.
Scouting San Diego State
San Diego State returns to action on Tuesday after a nine day break. The Aztecs are 2-0 to begin the year, defeating Long Beach State and Idaho State, both at home. SDSU received 71 votes in this week's AP Poll, narrowly missing the Top 25. The Aztecs rank second in the country in scoring defense, allowing just 51.0 points per game over their first two contests. They boast an eighth ranked defense, according to KenPom. Reese Dixon-Waters leads SDSU in scoring so far this season, averaging 15.0 points.

Following Tuesday night's game, Troy will return to Los Angeles for a game against USC on Thursday. The game will air on the Big Ten Network and tip-off at 9 p.m. CT.
Notables
- Scott Cross is in his seventh season at the helm of the Trojans, amassing a 106-89 record during his time at Troy. Over the last four seasons, Troy has won 20-plus games each year and finished 23-11 last season.
- Troy is in the midst of a six-game road stretch. Tuesday night marks game three of the trip, following losses at LMU and CSUN on Friday and Sunday, respectively. After facing San Diego State, the Trojans will take on USC on Thursday before heading to Ft. Myers, Fla., for matchups with Toledo and either Belmont or Saint Francis as part of the Coconut Hoops multi-team event.
- Tuesday night will mark the third time that the Trojans and Aztecs have met, with the last time coming in 2022. The Trojans led that game 47-39 midway through the second half, but ultimately could not hold on, losing 55-60. Aamer Muhammad led Troy in scoring with 21 points. Troy beat San Diego State back in 2003 in Viejas Arena, 93-84.
- The next two games will test Troy, as San Diego State and USC rank 30th and 19th on KenPom, respectively. Troy has already faced the most difficult schedule in the Sun Belt according to KenPom, with its toughest challenges still ahead.
- Troy has faced the difficult challenge of replacing just over 60 percent of its scoring from last season. So far, Cooper Campbell has taken on the largest share of that load, averaging 15.8 points through the first five games. Campbell has also averaged 4.4 assists per game. Preseason All-Sun Belt First Team selection Thomas Dowd has been a presence on both ends of the floor as well, averaging 14.2 points and 9.4 rebounds to start the year.
