TROY, Ala. – Week one couldn't have gone better for Fortuna Ngnawo, as the Sun Belt Conference announced Tuesday afternoon that she earned the Player of the Week honor for the opening week of the season.
"Having a Trojan earn Sun Belt Player of the Week in the very first week of the season is a great way to start the year," head coach Chanda Rigby said. "Fortuna improved her game so much in the offseason, and I'm so happy her hard work and talent are being recognized."
The senior forward exploded onto the scene with back-to-back games in double-figures to average 19.5 points on 60.9 percent shooting from the field, 4.5 rebounds, four blocks and 1.5 steals. She also expanded her range with her first and second career triples as a Trojan, coming in the 45-point win over Mississippi Valley State, 95-50.
Ngnawo brought the Trojans to their first 2-0 start since 2022-23. First, she produced 17 points on 6-of-8 from the field with a career-high four blocks and six rebounds to boost in an 88-51 victory over Toledo. The Bafoussam City, Cameroon native followed it with her second career 20-plus point game with 22, tying her career high in blocks (4), set in the previous game, while also adding two steals and three rebounds.
Troy, led by Ngnawo, looks to start 3-0 as the team invites Chattanooga to Trojan Arena on Wednesday, Nov. 12, at 6 p.m.
