TROY, Ala. – For the first time since 2016, seven Trojans scored in double figures as Troy handled Pensacola Christian, 121-56, in its home opener.
Troy (3-0), is off to its best start since the 2022-23 season, continuing its run to open the year by making 17 three-pointers and distributing the ball exceptionally well with a season-high 31 assists as a team on Tuesday night.
After shooting 0-for-4 from beyond the arc at Furman, Thomas Dowd flipped the script, hitting 4-of-5 from deep to finish with a team-high 16 points, eight rebounds, and four assists.
The Trojans opened the game on a 20-0 run, capped by a three from Kerrington Kiel. The sophomore went on to score a career-high 10 points.
Troy shot 59.4 percent from the field in the first half, with Cooper Campbell leading the way at the break with 10 points and five assists.
The Trojans' offense exploded after halftime, putting up 64 second-half points. Freshman Javen Colbert impressed, scoring 11 of his 13 points in the half and dishing out five assists.
Fellow freshman Emmanuel Clarton also scored his first career basket, finishing with eight points and five assists, while redshirt freshman Evan Griffin made his collegiate debut and scored in the second half.
Corbin Green's eight points included multiple monstrous dunks, highlighted by a windmill slam in the second half.
Meanwhile, redshirt freshman Evan Griffin saw his first game action for the Cardinal and White, and scored a second-half basket.
For Pensacola Christian, Kaiden Pack led all scorers with 27 points and added seven rebounds.
Quotable – Head Coach Scott Cross
"I'm pleased with the way our guys played. Usually in a game that gets a little lopsided, players stop playing defense, or stop rebounding, or take bad shots. I didn't think we did that for the entire game. Our guys played the right way and we shared the basketball. Our guys were locked in, and that's the sign of a good basketball team."
