Macon, Ga. – Saturday, the Trojans returned to the court for day two of the Mercer Gridiron Classic. Troy looked to build on their success from day while taking steps of improvement.
Singles play began with Maria Guirguis suffering a tough defeat at the hands of Kennesaw State's Sofia Madrid in three sets. Madrid took set one, but Guirguis battled back to take set two. With a level playing field Madrid overpowered Guirguis to take the victory 6-4.
Fellow Trojan Valeriia Avdeeda suffered a similar fate in her match against Tea Zivic of Mercer. After dropping the first set, Avdeeva took the second, setting the stage for a third set. In the third set Zivic proved to be too much for Avdeeva as she took the set and the match.
The Trojans jumped in the win column via a Veena Mariam Nazar victory Jolie Miller of Florida Southern. She carried that momentum into her two-set victory against Middle Georgia State's Berta Castello.
Joining her in the win column is Leena Metwally. Metwally bounced back from a loss earlier in the day to dispose of South Alabama's Jade Marie in two sets with a tiebreaker.
Sama Hassan Hindawy also secured a two-set victory. Her victory against Alabama State's Senna Van Del Heuvel marks her second singles victory of the tournament.
