Women’s Tennis Opens Play at Mercer Gridiron Classic

Macon, Ga. – Day one of the Mercer Fall Invitational proved to be an eventful one for the Trojans. Across several draws and draw stages Troy secured a positive record in both singles and doubles action.
Maria Guirguis was the first Trojan to secure a victory today. Her victory over East Tennessee State's Ksenija Rage came in two sets.
Joining her in the win column was Valeriia Avdeeda. Avdeeva continued her undefeated season with a two-set victory over Georgia State's Sara Radojevic.
Leena Metwally topped South Alabama's Kenza Elakili in two sets. Metwally took the first set via tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-3).
Veena Nazar fell in three sets to South Alabama's Jana Rovira. After taking the first set, Rovira battled back to take set two. In the decisive third set Rovira proved to be too much for Nazar taking the third set, 6-2.
Concluding singles play was Sama Hindawy taking on Georgia College's Lucy Kim. After blanking Kim in the first set, Hindawy closed the door on Kim, 6-4.
Turning to doubles play, Avdeeva and Guirguis secured a victory of Jacksonville State's Irene Artigas Taberner and Angeles Rodriguez-Rizo. They then defeated South Alabama's Rio Maeda and Jana Rovira.
The duo of Namyslo and Hindawy also took the court. In their first match they defeated the Georgia College duo of Lucy Kim and Alisa Chiang. The next round of doubles play saw the Troy duo take down Florida Southern's Elona Simonov and Realtin Stara.
Alexia Zarate and Leena Metwally also took on a Florida Southern duo, Emily Jennewein and Ronja Scheuermann. Zarate and Metwally secured the victory 7-5.
