Men’s Tennis Kicks off Main Draws at ITA Southern Regional

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Troy men's tennis team began play in the singles and doubles main draws at the ITA Southern Regional on Friday. The Trojans have two chances left in each main draw.
Starting the day with doubles action, Luciano Alcocer and Yeray Andres Pastor received a bye to the round of 32 while three pairs of Trojans competed. The duo of Stephan Tavares Noale and Henrique de Brito were set to take on a team from Alabama State, but advanced after injuries forced the Hornets to retire.
Louis Boilevin and Thiago Drozdowski dropped an 8-4 match to LSU, and Hiiro Sakamoto and Ausias Martin Melo were bounced by a pairing from Jacksonville State.
In singles action, two Trojans moved on. Alcocer defeated Samford's Darcy Nicholls 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 to move on to the round of 32. Thiago Drozdowski dueled Tulane's Hady El Kordy, battling to a thrilling 5-7, 7-5, 7-5 victory.
Three Trojans fell to Power Four competition in singles. Boilevin began his match against Auburn's Joseph Phillips with a dominant 6-0 win in the first set but fell in the last two sets. Sakamoto, Tavares Noale and Andres Pastor all dropped their matches.
Play at the ITA Southern Regional continues on Saturday morning.
