Troy Volleyball Welcomes Cal Poly for Home Opener

TROY, Ala. – The Troy volleyball team hits the court inside Trojan Arena for the first time this season on Saturday at 2 p.m., as it welcomes Cal Poly for the first matchup between the two programs.
Troy (2-2) is coming off a 3-0 loss to Auburn on Tuesday night. Cal Poly (2-2) played Auburn on Thursday night, and also fell 3-0. Saturday's meeting will be just the second time the Trojans have taken on a member of the Big West Conference. Troy defeated Cal State Bakersfield 3-1 in 2015.

It's Good to be Home
The Trojans are looking to replicate their 2023 home success this season. Last year Troy went 6-4 while in its friendly confines, which included a five-match winning streak.
The Trojans struggled with offensive efficiency on Tuesday, hitting just .159 with 38 kills and 32 errors. On the service line Troy recorded just two aces while committing ten errors, including five in the first set.
Tori Hester continues to pace the Trojans offensively, as her 81 kills leads the country and is seven clear of Amaris Smith (CSNU) and eight clear of Jurnee Robinson (LSU). The senior outside hitter has double-figure kills for the Trojans in all four matches, and added 13 on Tuesday night against Auburn.
Last season, Hester set the program record of 36 kills in Troy's exciting home win over Southern Miss in Trojan Arena. Hester is currently sitting at eighth all-time in Troy history in kills with 1,312 and is second in kills per set at 3.79.
Also off to a strong start this season is hitter Amiah Butler. The junior from Pensacola, Fla., is second on the team in kills this season with 50. Butler has recorded double-figure kills in three of four matches.
Defensively, Ella Broadhead has been leading the charge with a team-high 15.0 blocks after recording two on Tuesday. Jaci Mesa has had a strong start of the season from the libero position and is leading Troy with 48 digs.
Sharing the Love
The Trojans have been utilizing a two-setter system to open the season, as both Janelle Stuempfig and Jordan Sinness have played meaningful roles for Troy. Stuempfig is leading the way in assists with 80, and Sinness is right behind her at 77.
Combined, the duo is putting together an impressive 10.46 assists per set and setting up the offense for 13.13 kills per set.
Scouting Cal Poly
The Mustangs will be playing there third game in three days when they take the court in Trojan Arena on Saturday. On Thursday, Cal Poly played at Auburn and fell 3-0. On Friday they will play a neutral site game in Auburn against No. 15 Florida State.
As a team, the Mustangs are averaging 13.1 kills per set while their opponent sits at 14.1. Cal Poly is hitting .245 this year while its opponents are just below that at .240. Tommi Stockham is leading the way with a team-high 57 kills (4.07 k/s). Tess Masingale has a team-high 13 blocks, while London Haberfield has 51 digs.
