TROY, Ala. – The Troy cross country program competed in the Southern Showcase against nearly 50 opponents to finish 25th on the men's side and 29th for the women.
"I thought both teams did a solid job today," head coach Brian Cunningham said. "For many, it was their first time in a field of this size. For the most part, we did a good job of moving forward in the middle of the race—next steps are to work on closing things out. Overall, I'm really happy with today's efforts."
For the seventh straight run in his career, Keith Warner led the Trojans via placement with a 96th-place finish. The sophomore timed at 14:37.00 through the first 1.6k to set the pace before crossing the line with a new personal best in the 8k at 25:33.88.
Caden Blackman (200th – 26:39.96), Riley Treadaway (228th – 26:57.93), Patterson Graham (232nd – 27:00.61) and Lane Watson (248th – 27:09.55) followed Warner with all four setting personal bests. Troy's average finishing position sat at 249th to edge out Morehead State, UT Southern and West Georgia.
The women's side averaged a 251st-place finish to accumulate 801 points and end just 10 points from ULM (791) and Kennesaw State (795). The freshmen led the way via Alexiana Hinote and Arianna Elder, who battled for the top spot amongst the Trojans – Hinote came out on top at 18:57.12 for 168th as Elder followed close behind with a personal record 18:57.72 for 171st.
Aisley McMeen also captured a personal best for the 5k with a 20:38.90 as she battled fellow Trojan Abigail Carr. Both Trojans competed, with Carr ending in 291st (20:35.65) and McMeen in 293rd.
