Cross Country Season Kicks Off with JSU Foothills Invitational

TROY, Ala. – 293 days after the conclusion of the 2023 season, Troy cross country kicks off the 2024 campaign on Friday with the JSU Foothills Invitational.
"After several months and hundreds of miles in training, we are excited to open up our season on Friday evening in Oxford, Ala.," head coach Brian Cunningham said. "I am eager to see our hard work come to life as we finally get to compete against others and take our first steps in the march toward the championship season."
The Trojans open their season on the men's side in Choccolocoo Park at 5:30 p.m. before the women take the course at 6:15 p.m. against 26 teams. Troy's roster includes seven newcomers on the women's side: Abigail Brown, Abigail Carr, Carlen Cook, Arianna Elder, Alexiana Hinote, Reece Knowlton, Annalee Parks, and four for the men: Patterson Graham, Bennett Phillips, Riley Treadaway and Lane Watson.

Season 2023 Recap
Last season, the Trojans had two top-five finishes for the women and two top-10s for the men at the JSU Foothills Invitational and Huntingdon 8k/6k, respectively. This included a golden sweep in Montgomery, where returners Lucy Turley, Makenna Calbert, Giulianna Rivero, Rhema Taylor and Aisley McMeen, combined with Cadi Rowe in first, took position No. 1-6.
Rowe took the Trojans to the NCAA South Regional in Gainsville, Fla. She peaked in her career finale with a personal best time in the 6k at 21:46.80. Meanwhile, on the men's side, Keith Warner shined as the top finisher in all five meets in 2023 with a career-best second-place finish at Greenbrier XC Course (Huntingdon 8k/6k).
In 2023's JSU Foothills Invitational, the men finished eighth out of 28 teams with four top-50 finishes in Warner (12th), Sam Megginson (34th), Caden Blackman (45th) and Tyler Baker (48th). Then-freshman Turley led Troy's women with an 18th-place finish to lead the team to a fourth-place finish – Rowe (22nd), Calbert (24th) and Rivero (37th) also finished in the top 50.
