SAN MARCOS, Texas – Ranked No. 21 in the country, Troy baseball looks to march to the No. 1 spot in the Sun Belt standings with a three-game series starting Friday in Bobcat Stadium against Texas State.

The Trojans (34-16, 16-8 SBC) enter the weekend intending to restart their win streak that peaked at eight before falling in game three to No. 18 Louisiana, 14-13, and Tuesday's midweek against No. 22 Alabama, 7-6. They also sit second in the Sun Belt standings, just two games away from Louisiana with a chance of clinching a tournament spot with a victory on the weekend.
Tuesday's loss saw Riddle-Pace Field break the single-season attendance record of 3,872 and two top 25 teams battle until the final out. Troy's defense shined with three double plays, while Michael Osmond closed the game with 1.1 innings pitched with two strikeouts and zero hits and runs to keep Troy in. Ethan Kavanagh shined with a perfect 3-for-3 day, including a team-high two RBIs and a walk to boost.
Brooks Bryan tied the single-season RBI record (81) with Troy's 33rd sac fly of 2024 to finish a four-run rally in the fifth inning. No. 17 also enters the series ranked eighth of all catchers according to D1 Baseball with a batting split of .317 AVG/.417 OBP/.678 SLG. His 81 RBIs leads the nation and league while ranking 49th in home runs (17).
With two series remaining in the regular season, the Trojans continue to dominate the offensive categories, sitting in the top 50 in walks (324 – second), batting average (.303 – 43), doubles (110 – 16), HBP (85 – 36th), hits (505 – 22nd), homers (77 – 42nd), on-base percentage (.433 – sixth), runs (463 – sixth), sac flies (33 – sixth), scoring (9.3 – 12th) and slugging percentage (.519 – 35th) – also rank in the top three for the SBC in all respective categories.
Texas State (24-25, 10-14 SBC) comes off a series victory over Old Dominion, where it run-ruled the Monarchs in game one, 18-4, won game two, 8-6 and lost in game three, 7-4. The series win marked the first for the Bobcats since March 22-24 against James Madison, falling against Louisiana, Marshall, ULM, South Alabama and Arkansas State – recorded at 6-12 in that span.
The Bobcats sit on the bubble to make the Sun Belt Conference Tournament at No. 11, one game behind the three-way tie for eighth between Coastal Carolina, South Alabama and Georgia State. Kameron Weil and Aaron Lugo are the only Bobcats above .300 in batting average at .342 and .317, respectively. Lugo leads Texas State with 10 homers – only Bobcats in double-figures – and slugging percentage at .575.
