TROY, Ala. – With a chance to tie No. 18 Louisiana for the top seed in the Sun Belt Conference, Troy baseball welcomes the opposition for its second straight SBC-ranked battle from Friday to Sunday at Riddle-Pace Field.

The Trojans (32-14, 14-7 SBC) ride a seven-game win streak into the weekend that includes a pair of wins over Georgia State, a weekend sweep against Coastal Carolina, who was ranked 12th, and a midweek blowout against Alabama State. If the Trojans sweep the series, they move into a tie with No. 18 Louisiana (33-13, 17-4 SBC) for first and hold the tiebreaker.
Win No. 7 in a row for Troy came Tuesday night at Riddle-Pace Field when a slow start turned into a 12-3 blowout over Alabama State. Kole Myers led the Trojans on a 2-for-3 day with four runs, four stolen bases and three walks. Ben Arnett followed, going 2-for-4 and tying Ethan Kavanagh with a team-high three RBIs.
Clete Hartzog got credited with his seventh win of 2024, which moved him to 7-2, pitching 2.1 innings with zero hits, runs, or earned runs while striking out three. Noah Manning and Jay Dill also impressed on the mound, combining for three hits, one earned run and five strikeouts in three innings.
Troy enters the weekend with two of the top three in RBIs for the SBC in Brooks Bryan (first) and Will Butcher (third) with 76 and 59, respectively. Bryan grabbed two in the win over Alabama State to move one away from tying Shane Lewis for the second most in a single season with a chance to break the Troy record of 81 held by Joey Denison (2018).
With three weekends remaining in the SBC schedule, the Trojans have eclipsed the 100-double mark to lead the conference and rank 21st in the nation. They are also the leader for the SBC in walks (301), hits (463), on-base percentage (.431), runs (420) and sac flies (31).
Louisiana enters off a series victory over Southern Miss, who sits third in the conference standings, which clinched a spot in the Sun Belt Tournament come May 21. The series got split after winning game one, 3-2, on a three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth by Kyle DeBarge and dropping game two, 3-2. Then, game three saw the Ragin' Cajuns explode offensively to win the series on a 13-2 final.
The defense for Louisiana has been a staple, led by pitchers Andrew Herrmann and Chase Morgan, who rank seventh and 11th in the SBC for opposing batting average at .368 and .351, respectively. As a unit, the Cajuns have earned six shutouts in 2024 to rank second in the country. DeBarge is the leader of the offense with 1.43 hits per game, 15 homers, 46 runs and 50 RBIs on a .351 batting average – all rank in the top 12 for the SBC.
