TROY, Ala. – In addition to excelling on the courts, the Troy women's tennis team performed just as well off of it as Kristina Kukaras, Valeriia Avdeeva, Maria Guirguis and Gabrielle Leslie were named Academic All-District, the College Sports Communicators announced on Tuesday morning.
Kukras, a global business marketing major, finished the academic year with a 3.64 GPA and played the number one singles spot for the Trojans this season. She posted an 8-14 record in singles, including 5-5 in conference play. This marks the second consecutive season that Kukaras has received this honor.
Finishing with a 3.64 GPA, Avdeeva – a global business management major – earned her way onto the list for the first time in her young collegiate career. Avdeeva had a strong season for the Trojans, posting an 11-10 singles record in the spring, including a 6-3 mark against conference foes. In doubles, she went 10-12, 5-5 SBC.
Also being named to the list for the first time is Guirguis, who posted a 3.62 GPA while also majoring in global business management. Guirguis was one of the most impressive players for Troy this season as she posted a 13-10, 7-4 SBC singles record this spring while primarily playing in the number three spot. She went 9-11 in doubles, all coming at the number one position.
The final Trojan making the list was Leslie and her remarkable 20-1 record, including 8-1 in SBC play. Leslie finished the season on a nine-match winning streak. The majority of Leslie's action came out of the number six spot, where she was 18-1.
The 2024 Academic All-District Women's Tennis Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.
The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes women's tennis honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
