First Day of Sun Belt Track and Field Championships Cut Short Due to Weather

MONROE, La. – Shortly after the Troy track and field program secured its first podium placement at the Sun Belt Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the remainder of the first day of events was postponed due to severe weather in the area.
A revised schedule has the remainder of Thursday's events being completed on Friday.
The Trojans' first podium of the championships came in the men's hammer throw, as Morgan Reese hit a mark of 59.14m to take home third place. Reese has been impressive in the event all season, and it showed again on Thursday as he was just one of three athletes to throw 59m or better.
Kady Schwietz and Alejandra Gutierrez Fuente each completed the first four of seven events in the women's heptathlon. Schwietz ended the first day in fourth place with 2,974 points, and Gutierrez Fuente is in 10th place with 2,874 points.
Schwietz placed 11th in the 100m hurdles, eighth in the high jump, third in the shot put and ninth in the 200m, while Gutierrez Fuente placed 14th in the 100m hurdles, ninth in the high jump, 13th in the shot put and sixth in the 200m.
Caden Blackman advanced to the finals of the men's 1500m with a time of 3:57.67 in the prelims, which was good for eighth overall. Whitney Clark finished seventh in the women's javelin with a throw of 41.58m.
Due to the schedule adjustment, action will get underway at 8 a.m. on Friday.
